The Senate has commenced the process to move the inauguration of the President and the Vice President from the Eagles Square to within the precincts of the National Assembly through a bill.
The bill tagged, “Presidential inauguration Bill, 2016 (SB. 379), sponsored by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu scaled through first reading at the Senate yesterday.
Shedding more light on the bill Ekweremadu said there was the need to move the inauguration to the National Assembly in line with international best practices as obtained in the United States of America, USA, and many other democracies.
In a statement by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu, he said the bill did not seek to preclude the Chief Justice of Nigeria from administering the Oath of Office on the President and Vice president.
It provides for the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect and the Vice President-elect to take place at the Arcade of the National Assembly, where the people are represented.
