At the 2017 Armed forces remembrance day organised by the Gombe ministry of women affairs and welfare on the 12th of January, the emblem appeal fund and the laying of wreath ceremonies was performed by his Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo who was ably represented by his deputy Hon. Charles Ilya.
In his address, his excellency said that the occasion was not for only the remembrance of our fallen heroes but also an opportunity for sober reflection on the predicament of their dependents that lost their loved ones while defending the nation.
The Governor also added that the fund raising was meant to support the dependents of those who are incapacitated and those that died in active service.
The Governor launched the appeal fund raising on behalf of the state government with a large donation of N5 million and an undisclosed personal donation from the deputy Governor in his own capacity.
The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare thanked the Governor for his continued support for the Armed Forces’ welfare through the ministry and also stated in an interview with a LEADERSNG reporter that the Governor is also concerned about the welfare of the armed forces and support.
The Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Legions, Gombe State Chapter also used the occasion to seek for the assistance of the Governor in the maintenance of the families of the deceased members and to promote the welfare of the members, also fostering comradeship among the members.
Also in attendance was the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar and also the Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III , the Gombe State Chief Judge and Grand Khadi, the Honourable Speaker of the Gombe State house of Assembly, the commissioner of police, the Commander, 301 Artillery Regiment, the Honourable Commissioner of Information, Honourable Umar Nafada and the Honourable Commissioner of Cooperatives.
The event also featured music and drama acts to entertain guests.
