Musa Azare, the blogger who was arrested by the police over his criticisms of the Bauchi governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has been released on the orders of the governor.
Azare’s release has been confirmed by Chidi Odinkalu, the former chairman of the National Human RIghts Commission who led an online campaign calling on the security agents to release the blogger.
Gov. Abubakar said that Azare was arrested based on accusations of “cyber stalking” but he ordered his release because as a lawyer, he respects free speech. Even though Azare was abducted in Abuja and taken to Bauchi by the security agents, the governor said he was not behind the move as he had been away in China on a business trip.
