LETTER OF INTENT TO CONTEST FOR THE POSITION OF NATIONAL

PUBLICITY SECRETARY OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) ON JUNE 23.2018.

Dear compatriots, it is with the utmost humility and highest sense of responsibility that I respectfully convey my intention to contest for the position of National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of our great party, the APC during the National Convention on June 23, 2018 at Eagle Square, Abuja.

In arriving at, and clarifying this aspiration, I first introspectively considered my ability, passion, energy, drive and desire to portray our party in the best possible light and make the real image of principles and fidelity to the people that we truly stand for. In addition, I reflected deeply on how best to accomplish this objective, the current political landscape in our country, our strengths, opportunities and threats to our dominance and domination. Finally, realizing that our greatest asset has been our beginning history of consensus and continuing ability to build, and sometimes forge this consensus, I consulted widely with critical stakeholders at every level to ensure that we could build a consensus in the best spirit and character of our party. It is the combination of these that has brought me before you to offer myself to serve and for service.

I recognize what our party needs right now. I know this because of the unique combination of skills and experience God has graciously bestowed on me. By training, I am a professional journalist, in work experience, I have been a strategic communications, crisis management and public relations specialist. Decades of experience in these vital areas have served me and many assignments well, and I know it will serve our party well. Further, I have been politically active for many years including handling the entire public relations of major campaigns and important political causes and situations. Beyond that, I have been a political office holder and elected as an Honourable Member of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly. All these have assisted to build solid political, media, professional and social justice/civil society networks which are so crucial to the role of making and projecting the image of our party.

Indeed, it is fortuitous that the position of National Publicity Secretary is zoned to the North Central where I hail from.

A Graduate of Political Science from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, I started my Journalism career from the Courier Magazine Kano in 1990 after bagging the Best Corper’s Award in the State and given automatic employment by the State Government. In 1992, I joined the services TELL Magazine, Lagos and later became a thorn in the flesh of Military Dictatorship on the need to speedily return the Nation to Democracy at the time, leading to my subsequent arrest, torture and detention in 1993. In 1995, I continued my Journalism Career at The News/Tempo Magazine from where I eventually joined Thisday Newspapers as Senior Assistant Editor in 1996. Between 1996-1999 when I became a Political Editor (Nation’s Capital) of Thisday, I had served in between as the Chief Press Secretary. I was later appointed as Manager, Public Affairs, Albarka Air Plc, the office from which I was elected Member House of Representatives in 2003.

After my tenure in the National Assembly in 2007, I ventured into Media Consultancy Business and has been privileged to Consult for some standing Committees in the Senate and House of Representatives respectively as well as leading corporate organizations in the Country.

In 2015, I was also privileged to be to be appointed as Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Governorship campaigns in Kogi State and by the grace of God, I remain a major stakeholder of the Party in the State till Date.

There is no gain saying the fact that as a ruling Party with a strong opposition breathing down its neck, we can least afford the luxury of not putting a round peg in a round hole in our Publicity Unit, especially during this critical moment that the Nation is transiting into Election season proper. The implications are better imagined.

I therefore offer my honest and patriotic service to our great party as the National Publicity Secretary with a pledge to discharge my duties creditably. It is my intention to use this office to further the gains of our great Party through:

  1. Factual dissemination of information to the General Public at all times.
  2. Key strategic communication initiatives and collaborations with relevant internal and external stakeholders to reiterate our achievements, our continuing core values and demonstrated interest and commitment to nation building, as well as decimation comparisons and comparators with opposition.
  3. Educate the Nation about the acceptable dynamics of Democracy and show that existing and arising opposition are neither credible, not posses any track record that can be trusted.
  4. Regular briefings on the achievements of our Party and Government across all sectors of our Socio-Political entity.
  5. Robust engagements with opposition Parties on policy directions of Government.
  6. Robust defence and management of the corporate image of the APC at all times.
  7. Constructive engagements with other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) in the administration and development of the Party, among others.
Permit me, dear compatriots to humbly covet your prayers and total support towards making this aspiration a reality.

I wholeheartedly promise to keep faith with this assignment if given the opportunity.

Thank you and God bless.
