Nigerian Anti graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has begun the investigation of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, his wife, Feyisetan and other principal officers of the state, LeadersNG learned.
Governor Ayodele Fayose and his wife, according to an EFCC source are being investigated on allegations of money laundering, diversion of Public funds, Criminal conspiracy and Abuse of Office.
You would recall that after Ekiti governorship election, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission through it’s official twitter had threatened that the commission would soon begin investigation into governor Fayose’s stewardship in Ekiti State.
“The parri is over; The cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken. #Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon,” The commission tweeted.
LeadersNG understands that the governor is standing trial over alleged N1.3billion fraud in the Integrated Poultry Project during his first stint as Ekiti State Governor between 2003 and 2006.
In a case filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos which was later transferred to Ado-Ekiti in 2015, The commission alleged that Fayose used a company, Biological Concepts Limited, owned by one Gbenga James believed to be Fayose’s friend, to defraud Ekiti State of N1.3bn.
During one of the hearings which was presided over by Justice Adamu Hobon in Ado-Ekiti High court, an EFCC witness narrated how Fayose diverted N860million from the alleged sum during his first term as Governor.
The witness said Fayose purportedly diverted the money through his wife, Feyisetan Fayose, and his then Deputy Governor, Biodun Olujimi, who is currently serving as a senator.
According to one of the documents tendered by EFCC before justice Hobson, Olujimi also collected $50,000 from the Federal Ministry of Works.
Sources privy to the investigation said the anti-graft agency has concluded plan to arrest the governor after handover. One of the sources further stated that the agency would soon freeze all the accounts of the governor.
LeadersNG gathered that the commission has placed a surveillance on the governor as Customs, Immigration have all been alerted to keep an eagle eye on the governor’s movement.
“We are keeping a close tab on the Governor. All plans to have his international Passport seized are also on course. We have as well alerted officers at the borders to keep eye on the ground”. A source told LeadersNG.
LeadersNG through a source learned that the governor allegedly stole over N40Billion.
Mr. Fayose in 2003, defeated the incumbent governor, Niyi Adebayo to become governor, the position he held till he was impeached on the 16th of October 2006.
