EXCLUSIVE: How Former DG of DSS, Daura told Osinbajo ‘he had no right to suspend him before sack’

The invasion of the National Assembly by officers and men of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) which led to the sack of its former Director General, Mr. Lawal Daura by Nigerian Acting President Yemi Osinbajo was as a result of pressure being mounted on the Nigerian government by European Union, American government, Embassy of India and other foreign bodies.

LeadersNG reports that the National Assembly was last week Tuesday barricaded by masked armed DSS officials who prevented lawmakers, staff from entering the complex. The siege on the National Assembly drew nationwide outrage with many Nigerians online calling on the international community to intervene in what many described as ‘Coup’ on the nation’s democracy.

The main reason why the DSS laid siege on the National Assembly according to reports were plans by senators elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress to impeach senate President Bukola Saraki who recently defected from APC to PDP.

An inside source privy to what transpired on Tuesday told LeadersNG that Mr. Lawal Daura was set up by Former Governor of Lagos state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The source said, the Initial plan was to use the police to carry out the operation but Mr Lawal was lured into believing that the acting president had given a nod for him to mobilize his officers to the National Assembly.

Speaking with LeadersNG, a credible source at the Presidency said, when the acting president summoned the then DG, Lawal Daura to his office about the siege on the National Assembly by his men, Daura got into a heated argument with Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Daura told the acting president that the operation was meant to maintain law and order after intelligence report that there would be a fracas between the two major political parties at the complex.

The acting President according to our source had initially wanted to suspend Daura but his arrogance and insults on the VP that he had no power to fire him but only the Commander In Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari who had appointed him was what made the Vice President to sack him.

“Daura was so arrogant and rude to the Vice President while in his office. He told the VP that only the person who hired him got the power to sack him and not the acting President”. This statement got Professor Yemi Osinbajo infuriated”. The source told LeadersNG.

The Vice President after the heated argument with Daura, asked his media aide to release a press statement, announcing Daura’s sack. The IG of Police was immediately alerted about the development by the office of the acting President who ordered the Police Chief to immediately arrest Mr Lawal Daura.

Daura was summarily detained at the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS headquarters around Guzape area of Abuja.

LeadersNG learned that it was Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his men that alerted embassies about the siege on the National Assembly by the DSS.

“The President was not aware of Lawal’s sack. He got to know some hours after the Acting President called to inform him that he was pressured to relieve Lawal of his job after several calls from prominent Nigerians and international community”.

“President Muhammadu Buhari was so furious when he learned about his kinsman’s Sack”.

Mr Lawal Daura is considered to be one of Buhari’s loyalists and the former DG LeadersNG gathered is very important to the President’s re-election bid as he fears betrayal from people who are not from his Northern extraction or in tandem with his agenda.

The Vice President had in the past be at loggerheads with the Cabal whom Lawal Daura is said to be actively a member of. The cabal comprises of the President’s uncle, Mamman Daura, the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babagana Kingibe, Ismaila Isa Funtua.

Ismailia Isa Funtua is the Chairman Bullet International Construction Company and he is said to be a personal friend of the President.
Although Funtua, like Daura, does not hold political office, sources say, he wields considerable influence in the administration.

No one gets an appointment into any important position in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government without getting an approval from Mr. Mamman Daura.

“Many appointments in Buhari’s cabinet were influenced by Daura”.

LeadersNG through a source within the seat of Power learned that Mamman Daura is fond of cornering all the appointments, contracts, deals and even collecting money from people before allowing them have access to the president or get any appointment approved.

Our Presidency source went further to explain that the Vice President has been in a running battle with the cabal over their overbearing influence on major issues of national importance.

“The main reason why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s chairman, Ibrahim Magu is still holding sway is because of the Vice President backing”. “Magu is not in their good book because he is subservient to the Vice President”.

“The DSS under the leadership of the then Director-General, Lawal Daura had written a damning letter to the Nigerian Senate, informing them on why Magu should not be confirmed as the Chairman of the Nation’s anti graft agency.

The then DG of DSS, Lawan Daura accused the Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, of running the anti-graft agency based on gossips, maneuvering and political interference from certain quarters and marabouts.

Daura while appearing before the Senate ad-hoc committee also said that the ‘brawn instead of brain’, method deployed by EFCC under Magu, is a Gestapo style that belongs to dictatorial regimes.

In another development, Contrary to reports that N21billion was found in the sacked DG of DSS’ house, LeadersNG can exclusively report that no such money was found in his house located in Gwarimpa or any other place.
