President Buhari had on the 30th of April 2018 met with the U.S President, Donald Trump at the White House. Several MOUs LeadersNG learned were signed and President Muhammadu Buhari particularly emphasized on the US/Nigeria collaboration on the fight against corruption and insurgency where he handed over the list of 200 most corrupt Nigerians.
A presidency source who had a glimpse on the list submitted to the US government told LeadersNG that full investigation into allegations of financial misappropriation, sharp practices and money laundering against some prominent names on the list will take effect next year after President Buhari wins re-election.
“We are not foolish to start investigation now into corrupt activities of some of these Politicians. We are very strategic with this. We need them to win re-election in 2019”.
A close ally to National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, LeadersNG spoke with says, “ There’s currently a serious distrust between President Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He wonders why Tinubu would want to stake his reputation for a president that has not lived up to expectation.
Tinubu’s associates are also worried that the president might turn against their principal if he eventually wins a second term.
LeadersNG also gathered that the Former Vice President of Nigeria and a frontline presidential aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party has also been penciled down for prosecution. An inside source told LeadersNG that the presidency is currently gathering files that will nail the former Vice President upon re-election.
The Former Vice President according to reports, is allegedly banned from entering the United States of America. The Nigerian President in the course of his meeting with the US counterpart enjoined the US government to ban, help Nigeria prosecute and freeze accounts and assets of those “Extremely Corrupt Nigerians” on the submitted list.
President Muhammadu Buhari according to an aide is treading with caution in order not to step on the toes of some power brokers in the country lest they sabotage his re-election bid.
The aide said the reason President Buhari is using the carrot stick to fight corruption for now is because of the so much money in the hands of these corrupt politicians and the powers they wield in their respective states.
“Trust me, you would see the other side of the General if he comes back. We know those that are with us and we are not leaving anything to chance”.
