I’ll build on Ogbemudia, Oshiomhole’s legacies —Gov. Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has pledged to build on the legacies of the two-time former governor of defunct Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia and his immediate predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

He noted that the legacies both leaders left in the area of infrastructure would be sustained just as he reiterated his earlier promise to make the state investor-friendly to attract investors and consequently create employment in the state.

Obaseki spoke when he paid a visit to Dr Ogbemudia at his residence in Benin City, to inform the elder statesman that he had commenced work in earnest.

Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki disclosing that the state government was going to refurbish the Benin Technical College which was built during Ogbemudia’s administration, the governor said, “Our first visit was to the Benin Technical College, the technical school. It is remarkable what you put in place there 40 years ago. The structures are still solid in spite of the total abandonment of that school.

You could still see the relics of the solid foundation you built in that institution. We want to assure you that our goal is to build on the legacy you left.

“The next day, we went to the secretariat complex to see the state of infrastructure and the condition under which civil servants work. Since you left about 40 years ago, successive administrations have not been able to add one block on it. I want to assure you that we will, as a matter of priority, build on that solid foundation which you laid.”

He further commended the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, disclosing that his administration was going to focus on those areas which didn’t get enough attention in the last administration.

Responding, the elder statesman expressed joy for the visit, admonishing the governor to work with people who could always draw his attention to issues that could have negative consequences on the state rather than working with people who accepted everything he said, no matter the implication.

Dr Ogbemudia drew the attention of the governor to the road that connects Sobe to other parts of Owan West Local Council, the rice farm at Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area and the gold deposits at Owan East and Owan West Local Government Areas of the state.
