In order to combat acute malnutrition, which has become a humanitarian crisis among internally displaced persons(IDP) in Biu Camp, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, the online non-interest financial scheme, MMM (Nigerian chapter), has made some huge financial donation to the camp.
The donation from MMM is coming on the heels of an appeal for fund launched by a nongovernmental organization called Displaced Women/Children Foundation to help boost food stock in the camp as well as undertake some oral hygiene to combat some body infections affecting some persons in the camp..
Consequent upon the donation from the scheme, several food items such as cow, rice, groundnut, seasoning, palm oil, vegetable oil, maize and biscuits for the utterly malnourished among the IDPs were procured for the camp.
The donation of the food items was combined with the send-forth empowerment day of the 142 women IDPs trained in four different skills by the nongovernmental organization.
The military commanding officer of Biu Barracks supervised the distribution of the items including the oral hygiene session(barbing, treatment of skin and scalp infection and medical supplies to the dispensary.
Brigadier General Briggs represented the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Yusu Buratai while the Senator representing Borno South in the Senate and the lawmaker representing Biu Federal Constituency were represented by the chairman of Biu Local Government.
Mrs Mary Silas, program officer of Displaced Women/Children Foundation, commended MMM and other philanthropists for their generous financial assistance while appealing to other corporate bodies to come to the aid of the IDPs.
