Obaseki says he will fulfill his promise of creation of 200,000 jobs

Godwin Obaseki has been sworn-in as the new governor of Edo state, for the next four years, at the expiration of the term of office of Adams Oshiomhole.

It was a colourful event on November 12, 2016, at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin city, the Edo state capital.

Residents, supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the state as well as those from other parts of the nation, converged at the facility to witness the inauguration of the governor and his Deputy, Philip Shuabu.

In the state box, other dignitaries like the outgoing governor, Oshiomhole and his wife, the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, some former and serving governors, were also present at the event.

Following the laid down procedures at events of such nature, the Chief Judge of Edo state, Justice Cromwell Idahosa, administered the oath first on the deputy Shuaibu, after which Obaseki was sworn in.

After the swearing-in exercise, he went ahead to perform his first function as governor by inspecting the inauguration parade in a motorcade after which he presented his inaugural address.

Obaseki then promised to fulfill his campaign promise of creating 200,000 jobs in the state within the next four years.

Obaseki who extolled the achievements of Oshiomhole added that; “I’m honored to be succeeding a true friend and I will always uphold your trust. I will resolve to build your legacy.”

In his speech with witnessed huge applause from the crowd, Obaseki promised to attract industries and aide small businesses for Edo people in order to produce goods and services.

He added, “Edo state belongs to all of us no matter our political parties. Let’s integrate our ideas with diligence and focus on investing on preventive medicine as it is better to prevent than cure.”

On Education, the governor said, “We will thrive to improve the quality of our schools by introducing ICT and broadband into our schools.”

On infrastructure, Obaseki promised to continue to consolidate on the infrastructural development which Oshiomhole started, saying; “We will focus on completing all on-going projects.”
