The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced insinuations that the party had zoned its governorship ticket for the 2019 general elections to a particular Senatorial district of the state.
In a press statement released today by the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Alhaji Malik Ibitoye on behalf of the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, the party said in finality that the 2019 governorship ticket of the PDP is open to all party faithfuls irrespective of the zone or Senatorial district of the aspirant.
“The Ogun State chapter of PDP has not zoned its governorship ticket to any senatorial district of the state. Any aspirant for the position of number one seat of Ogun state under our party is free to contest and mobilize for the 2019 governorship election. It is suffice for the public to note that Ogun PDP belongs to the mass of Ogun State people and everybody, no matter highly or lowly placed has equal opportunities to aspire for any elective position”, the statement said.
The Publicity Secretary however described a newspaper report which was published about a year ago, quoting the State Party Chairman, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele reportedly that the party had zoned its governorship to Ogun East Senatorial district as insidious, deceptive and deliberate attempt to cause disharmony among the party leaders and members in the state.
“The interview was twisted to suit the biases of the reporter. Hon Ogundele was quoted out of contest and as an experienced politician, the words ascribed to him in the interview did not emanate from him. The Peoples Democratic Party is built on the finest of democratic ethos and ideals. The party belongs to all our members who, through constructive engagements decide on the course of actions the party will take in our determination to give the people of Ogun state good governance and set them free from the anarchical and tyrannical government currently in the state.
“We therefore reiterate that the report of zoning the governorship to a particular region is false, erroneous and fraudulent.” The press statement asserted.
