Ondo Polls | INEC maintains Jegede’s candidacy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared Eyitayo Jegede as the Peoples Democratic Party flag bearer for the Ondo state Governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 26th November, 2016.

INEC in a statement signed by its secretary, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu said on Thursday that the commission acted in compliance with the order of the Appeal Court that declared Jegede as the candidate of PDP in the Saturday’s election.

“ It will be recalled that in compliance with the Order given by the Federal High Court, Abuja Division on Friday 14th October, 2016 (re-affirmed on 27th October, 2016), the commission recognized Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP candidate for the Governorship election.

However, with today’s judgment by the Court of Appeal, the commission hereby recognizes Mr. Jegede as the candidate of the PDP for the said election” it said.

INEC, thereby, appealed to the eligible voters in the state to come out en masse on Saturday to carry out their civic responsibilities in a peaceful manner.

The commission also enjoined all political parties and their candidates participating in the election to shun polities of bitterness and play by the rules to ensure a free and fair election.
