The Youth Movement of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday in Abuja advised the party’s National Caretaker Committee to re-brand and re-position it for formidable opposition and recovery of power.
The Chairman of the group, Mr Edwin Adai, told journalists that the committee led by Sen. Ahmed Makarfi now had the golden opportunity to provide good leadership that would move the party forward.
He said that it was imperative for the party to depart from the old order of impunity and imposition of candidates for elective offices.
Adai said that the jubilation on major streets and the social media across the country after Wednesday’s Supreme Court’s judgment on leadership of the party was symbolic of people’s love for the PDP.
He said that the jubilation and reactions also justified the confidence the people reposed in the party.
He congratulated Makarfi and the caretaker committee on the victory at the apex court.
Adai said, “I hope this victory will serve as a binding force among us, having proven our mettle before our party leaders that through thick and thin we stood and defended our great party.
“For us youths, our reward can only be reciprocated by the display of the will power of our party leaders to deliver on good leadership.
“It has to be good leadership that will indicate a clear departure from the old order of impunity and imposition.
“We advocate for the creation of a level platform that candidates for elections will be determined by popular votes at the ballot.
“In conclusion, bound by the judgment of the Supreme Court, we encourage the leadership of the PDP to run an all-inclusive party system devoid of bitterness and acrimony and put PDP on the right path to greatness.’’
He said that the court victory had also presented the opportunity to the party to include a new generation of competent characters in its fold.
This, according to him, is important to take up the good legacies set by PDP leaders ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The youth leader lauded the courage and doggedness of the judiciary, the caretaker committee, PDP Governors’ Forum, PDP Senate Caucus, PDP House of Representatives Caucus, and PDP’s staff while the crisis lasted.
He pledged the group’s continued support to the party’s leadership so as to provide the viable opposition to the ruling party.
