IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has violated a majority of his bail conditions given to him by a Federal High court seated by Justice Nyako.
You would recall that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested on October 15 and held in prison until April 28 when he was released after perfecting his bail conditions. Before then, he had previously been granted bail but was otherwise detained by an executive order.
He was subsequently granted bail on medical grounds, His bail conditions were as stringent as they come. He was not allowed to attend any rally of any sort or be in a crowd of more than 10 persons. He was also not allowed to grant interviews to any media house whatsoever. IPOB leadership alleged that the bail conditions were written by Buhari and handed over to Justice Nyako.
Apart from the conditions he perfected before he was released, Nnamdi Kanu has violated the court order barring him from granting interviews and attending rallies as the IPOB leader has continuously made appearances in several rallies in the South East and continues to grant interviews to electronic and print media.
On the 28th of May, he directly violated a court order not to participate in any rally or be in a crowd of more than 10 people as he addressed a massive crowd that rallied outside his father’s compound in Umuahia for a Jewish Shabbat Rally where he continued to preach the disintegration of Nigeria, a similar offence that led to his arrest.
On the 30th of May, barely a month after his release, Nnamdi Kanu granted an interview to Al Jazeera deliberately flouting his bail conditions as he continued to rain abuse on the Nigerian state as he continued to call for its disintegration.
Lamenting his current situation, Nnamdi Kanu said: “I can’t go outside to call for a press conference. I can’t go on Biafra Radio to broadcast. I can’t allow large [groups of] people to basically congregate outside to see me … it’s like asking me not to breathe,”
The IPOB leader also called on Biafrans to boycott all public obligations and civic duties including participating in the electoral processes in Nigeria. He categorically stated that elections will not hold in the South East.
Nnamdi Kanu was originally arrested for charges of terrorism which were later reduced to treason for his utterances on the Infamous radio Biafra where he made a lot of comments against the Nigerian state and encouraged his listeners to speak hate against Nigeria and her institutions.
Despite all these violations which is a slap on the face of the judiciary, the Nigerian state has not rearrested Nnamdi Kanu.
