Twenty three persons were killed yesterday while about 30 others sustained injuries as a result of multiple suicide bomb attacks in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Our correspondent gathered that three suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers on Friday night stormed a fish market situated not-too-far from Konduga town.
The bombers, who simultaneously detonated explosive vests strapped to their bodies, were said to have targeted dozens of unsuspecting buyers and sellers, including security personnel deployed to the market.
But the state Police Commissioner, Mr Damian Chukwu, said those who died were 18 and that 22 persons were injured.
Chukwu said the suicide bombers were; two females and one male.
He added that the injured persons were referred to the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri. The commissioner added that normalcy has, however, been restored to the area.
However, the National Emergency Management Emergency (NEMA) zonal coordinator, Bashir Garza, put the death toll at 17 and 51 injured.
A witness, Idrissa Bana, said, “there were a lot of people doing last minute shopping when the suicide bombers hit the market”.
It would be recalled that late last year, suicide bomb attacks killed dozens and injured many others in Konduga town.
