Jigawa state chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, thrown into confusion as some of its big wing members and their hundreds of supporters yesterday announced they quit the party, APC, to Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Hon Abba Anas Adamu who emerged as the party Chairman in the state, said the decision of the decampees is a protest on the way and manner that the party, APC, conducted its wards and local government congresses in the state.
Hon. Abba Anas Adamu a one-time member house of representative alleged that the APC, the previous congresses conducted was full of irregularities and containing the party’s constitutional provision.
He also alleged that the APC leadership in the state has failed to carry everybody along. “With this and other reasons, we have parked our belongings to SDP as an alternative to us ahead of 2019″.
According to Abba Anas disclosed that time has come for every thinking and progressive Jigawa citizen to join hands and be part of this journey to salvage the state from imminent collapse, saying the just concluded ward and local government congresses have only favoured those loyal to the governor and the party.
The SDP chairman expressed optimism that his new party will take over the state in 2019 from APC, added that a lot of prominent politicians who were not satisfied with Badaru’s style of governance will soon join the party.
It was gathered that among the decampees includes the longest-serving federal lawmaker, Hon Bashir Adamu, former Jigawa speaker, Hon. Abdu Dauda, some local government chairmen, members of the state and national assemblies among others.
The new SDP chairman assured that the party will soon receive prominent politicians from all walks of lives who were not comfortable with the scenario in APC”.
“Members of the APC at both states and national level are willing to join us, very soon you will agree with my statement, time will tell, APC will be a history”. He stressed.
Contacted, the special assistant to the governor on media and publicity, Bello M. Zaki said their reasons were the same reasons they gave when they decamped to APC from PDP, describing the decampees as buffalo soldiers whom their expectations were to be given appointment and juicy contacts when they joined APC.
He pointed out that government has already lost hope and confidence on the decampees as it has expected their recent action. ” Government has wished them well where ever they are going.” He added.
