The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned four men for alleged membership of an unlawful society, Aiye confraternity.
The defendants are Tunde Opaleye, Suleiman Saheed, Joseph Constant and Israel Aboh.
The defendants, who have no fixed address, are charged with conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.
They, however, pleaded not guilty before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, had told the court that the defendants, on Aug. 8, at the Oniru area of Maroko, conspired and belonged to the proscribed Aiye confraternity.
According to her, the offences contravene the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Lateef Owolabi, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos state government.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 3 for mention.
