Nigeria’s first indigenous chartered accountant, Akintola Williams, is dead.
Mr Williams, born August 9, 1919, passed on on Monday morning at about 9:00, according to a statement shared on his accounting firm’s WhatsApp group. He was 104.
Mr Williams, famously called the doyen of accounting in Nigeria, died around 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
Mr Williams, who became a chartered accountant after studying at the University of London, pursued a career that would later entrench him as a leader in the field for decades.
His most prominent business, Akintole Williams & Co., was opened in 1952 before being absorbed by the global professional services venture Deloitte. He also briefly served as a federal tax officer in the 1952s, as the British colonial domination in Nigeria was winding down.
A family source later told Peoples Gazette that Mr Williams’ family would soon issue a statement.
