Court Remands Suspended UNICAL Dean, Prof. Cyril in Kuje Prison

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC) has, on Monday, remanded the Iroko of Sexual Abuse, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, who is also the suspended Dean of Law Faculty, UNICAL, over the alleged crime of sexual misconduct with several female law students.

With a four counts charge of alleged sexual misconduct, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered that Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of Law Faculty, University of Calabar (UNICAL), be remanded at the Kuje Centre of the Nigerian Correctional  Service pending his bail arrangement.

This arraignment was after the President of Law Students, Obi Benedict Otu, with other faculty students and victims, in a non-violent outcry, protested on the 14th day of August 2023 that the Professor be tried in court.

The University of Calabar set up a Panel of Inquiry, which the professor refused to appear before, thrice. However, the report by the panel found him guilty with a 35-page report and fact-finding.

The NBA also, in a press release dated 19 August 2023, investigated the alleged sexual and professional misconduct of Prof. Cyril Ndifon.

Meanwhile, according to ICPC’s spokesperson, Mrs. Azuka C. Ogugua, in a statement, said: “The Professor of Law, however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.”

Lawyer to the accused, Okon Efut, has requested a prayer that the Prof. be released on bail as he filed on his behalf before January 2nd, 2024. Justice of the Federal High Court, James Omotosho, ruled that the defendant be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre till on Wednesday, 10th of January, 2024 when a hearing on his bail application would be concluded.

However, Professor Cyril, in his sexual misconduct, has so far subjected many of his female students to meet, as alleged, his unending thirst for sexual harassment or risk failing his courses.
