.Asks Tinubu to forward Supplementary Amendment to NASS
A civil society organisation, Coalition for Parliamentary Democracy (CPD), has reviewed the deliberation of the Senate on the allegation of N3.7 trillion budget padding and surmised that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, is presiding over sleaze.
The group, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Dr Menike Johnson, noted that revelations from the Tuesday sitting showed that the Senate has been reduced to a place of budget manipulations and sharing of looted funds.
The revelation by a Senator that some “senior Senators got N700 millions, some got N500 millions and others got nothing” is a clear pointer to the sleaze going on in the upper Chambers under Akpabio’s watch.
It is also disturbing that Nigerians heard from the senators how the funds meant for the development of our country are being round-tripped through non-existent constituency projects.
The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the budget padding allegation in the interest of transparency.
The President should save the integrity of the 2024 Appropriation Act by introducing a Supplementary Bill that will review the manipulations perpetrated in the budget.
