Continuous detention of my husband, staff amounts to infringement on their rights, Real Estate Mogul tells President Tinubu

Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, Real Estate Mogul has described the continuous detention of her husband and staff by EFCC as flagrant violation of section 35 of the Nigerian constitution

It should be recalled that Section 35 of the Nigerian constitution prescribes that no law enforcement agency has the right to detain one in a civil matter more than 48 hours.

Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac said this in a statement to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.

Omokamo Godwin-Isaac therefore called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and allow the rule of law to take its course in ensuring the release and prosecution of his husband and staffs if need be.

“This is 13 days and still counting that my husband and several workers are detained by EFCC operatives without prosecuting or releasing them.

“It is a contravention of section 35 of Nigeria’s constitution and an infringement on their right to freedom,” she said.

The Real Estate Mogul who condemned undue detention, called on EFCC not to take laws into their hands.

She affirmed that her husband and others had satisfied all bail conditions required by law to release them and yet denied bail.

According to her, it is expected of EFCC to either release them or charge them to court in accordance with the law than keeping them for this long.

Omokamo Godwin-Isaac who expressed her belief in the democratic leadership qualities of President Tinubu, appealed to him to let justice prevail.

Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, a law abiding citizen of Nigeria commended the EFCC Chairman for being fair and unbiased in the matter.

“The EFCC Chairman has asked the Elizabeth Eke-led E&SS department to release my husband and yet they refused.

“I don’t know her personal interest in the matter that she has refused to obey the law and her boss “

The Real Estate Mogul explained that she had never seen the so-called Yesufu family allegedly to be behind the arrest of her law-abiding husband and staff over no existent allegations of land grabbing.

She advised EFCC not to drag themselves to the mud by moving away from their purview which is criminal and corrupt cases.

“My husband and I are people of integrity without any record of corruption or fraud or land grabbing, so I wonder why EFCC should be terrorizing us.”

She wondered why EFCC could not operate within the dictates of the law.

According to her, the law is supreme and must be obeyed to the latter no matter the circumstances.

Omokamo Godwin-Isaac reiterated her calls on President Tinubu and men and women of good conscience to help preserve Nigeria’s law by calling on EFCC to release his husband and staff.

It should be recalled the Mr Godwin-Isaac, husband to Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac and their staff were wrongly arrested without investigation on allegations of land grabbing for over 13 day now by EFCC.
