Imo Chief Judge Secures Interim Injunction Against Assembly Over Age Falsification Allegations

Justice Theresa Chukwuemeka-Chikeka, the Chief Judge of Imo State, has been granted an interim injunction by the court in response to allegations of age falsification leveled against her by the Imo State House of Assembly. The injunction, issued on July 12, 2024, halts any further action by the House of Assembly related to these allegations.

Justice Chukwuemeka-Chikeka filed the ex parte motion seeking to prevent the Attorney-General of Imo State, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the National Judicial Council from proceeding with any invitations or summons related to the case. The court’s order specifically restrains the Imo State House of Assembly from continuing its investigation or issuing any further invitations to her.

The dispute centers around allegations that Justice Chukwuemeka-Chikeka falsified her age, adjusting her date of birth from October 27, 1956, to October 27, 1958. The Assembly Committee’s investigation reportedly confirmed these adjustments based on submissions from various sources.

In granting the injunction, the court emphasized the need to maintain the status quo until a full hearing can be conducted. The case has been adjourned to September 19, 2024, for further proceedings.
