The wife of Sokoto State Governor, Fatima Ahmad Aliyu, has been captured in a viral video where she held a lavish birthday party with some guests.
The video seen by SaharaReporters showed the guests flamboyantly spraying Dollars notes on the governor’s wife at a time when Nigerians generally grapple with hardship and hunger in the country.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics 2022 report, which is the latest official report on poverty index by Nigerian states, Sokoto State ranks first among the poorest states in the country with 90.5 percent of people living in the state poor.
The report noted, “Overall, 65 per cent of poor people – 86 million people live in the North, while 35 per cent – nearly 47 million – live in the South.
In general, a disparity between North and South is evident in both incidence and intensity of multidimensional poverty, with the North being poorer.
The state is also bedeviled with a high debt profile and among the most terrorised states in the North.
