Akeem Akewe, the full-grown man who raped a 14-year-old girl in the Alakuko area of Lagos on Monday, is finally in police custody.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) disclosed this on Friday via its official handle on X.
Lagos DSVA tweeted on Friday:
“We appreciate everyone who brought the tragic incident of child sexual abuse in Alakuko, Lagos, to our attention.
“We are working with @LagosPoliceNG to investigate the case.
“The survivor is receiving comprehensive medical care, and the suspect is currently in police custody.”
FIJ also called the Lagos DSVA via its helpline and the responder confirmed this.
“Everything posted on our platform is done and dusted on the backend. The information is true,” a Lagos DSVA told FIJ on Friday.
When FIJ called Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police PRO, on Friday afternoon, he did not respond. He had not responded to a text message FIJ sent to his mobile phone at press time.
On Tuesday, FIJ published a report detailing how Akewe, a man between the ages of 30 and 40, lured a 14-year-old girl into his house on Akewe Street, Opeloyeru Bus Stop, Alakuko in Lagos, and raped her.
Akewe’s parents, who were landlords in Alakuko, had attempted to take advantage of the victim’s uneducated parents to bury the case.
He escaped when the police visited the community to arrest him on Tuesday evening. FIJ learnt that some landlords in Alakuko were harbouring him and that the parents of the victim and residents of the community were unwilling to cooperate with the police.
