Lawmaker Hashimu Ranga Attacked With Stones By Youths During Late Ningi Emir’s Funeral

Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga, representing Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, narrowly escaped a violent mob attack in Ningi on Sunday.

The PDP lawmaker was at the Emir’s Palace for the burial of the late Emir of Ningi, Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya, who died on Sunday, The Tribune reports.

According to the report, irate youths, dissatisfied with their representative’s performance, attacked Ranga as he left the palace around 5:42 p.m.

The constituents, who had previously sought to recall him from the National Assembly, accused him of abandoning them after relocating to Abuja.

But the late Emir and other influential figures dissuaded the youths. However, on Sunday, the youths reportedly confronted Ranga, chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi” and pelting him with sand and stones.

The attack resulted in significant damage to his vehicle, including shattered screens and mirrors.

An eyewitness described the scene as deeply unfortunate, noting the suddenness and severity of the attack.

“I came out of the palace deeply saddened by the Emir’s demise, only to hear chants and see youths throwing sand and stones at a car.

“When I moved closer, I realised it was our representative being attacked,” the eyewitness said.

Another eyewitness recounted to the newspaper how the angry youths orchestrated an ambush, positioning themselves strategically to confront the lawmaker as he approached his car.

However, security personnel and bystanders swiftly intervened, escorting Ranga to safety and helping him into his vehicle, which then sped away to escape the hostile crowd.
