Damagum’s Sit-Tight Approach, a Threat to PDP

Immediate Past National Legal Adviser (NLA) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, has demanded that the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Ilyasu Damagum, should revert to his substantive position of Deputy National Chairman and allow the North-central to occupy the office of the National Chairman in line with the clear provisions of the party’s Constitution.

Enoidem said the sit-tight approach of Damagum has become a threat to the life of the party.

He made his demand via a public statement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, urging Damagum to respect the provisions of the PDP Constitution, which he swore to uphold.

Dismissing reports that claimed that leaders of the party from South-south are in support of Damagum’s continued stay in office, said, that would “never be the opinion of
genuine members or leaders of the party in the South-south.

“South-South people within the PDP know more than the purported demand for the continued stay in the office of Damagum. They are law-abiding people who believe in justice according to law.

“They are people who believe in the sacredness and sanctity of the PDP’s Constitution.
South-south people within the PDP are aware that this is the lowest time in the history of PDP since its inception in our nation.

“The people of the South-south know that the sit-tight tendencies of Ambassador Damagum, acting National Chairman, is a major challenge to the party at the moment.

“They know that the PDP National Chairmanship is for the North Central while the Deputy National Chairman (1) is for the North-east.
South-south people within PDP are in bewilderment why Ambassador Damagum should choose to hold 2 positions of Acting National Chairmanship and Deputy chairmanship at the same time,” he further asserted.

Continuing, Enoidem said, “it is impossible for any well-meaning PDP member(s) from the South-south to hold the view that the weakest NWC under the watch of Ambassador Damagum is doing well for the party.

“So those claiming the support of South-south for Damagum are completely misrepresentating the views of the respectable members of PDP from the South-south. It is far from the truth,” he submitted.
