All may not be well for abuja-based lawyer and failed Chairmanship aspirant, Victor Giwa, as details emerge of a Petition of forgery filed against the troubled lawyer. Giwa who is currently embroiled in several controversies, is currently facing multiple petitions before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) for alleged unprofessional conduct. The latest petition details how Giwa and his estranged lover and junior colleague, one Bukola Olugbenga forged the letterhead and letter of Awa Kalu SAN, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, in a bid to urge the Attorney General of the Federation to derail a criminal case No. CR/222/2023 in which Giwa is accused of committing several crimes.
Recall that Giwa, an effeminate lawyer known for wearing makeup, is accused of actions that have brought the legal profession into disrepute, with charges ranging from forgery and impersonation to attempts at procuring fraudulent judgments.
The letter which is dated 18th June, 2024, is contained on a letterhead of Awa Kalu SAN & Associates. However, our investigation reveals that the revered member of the Inner Bar changed his firm’s name several years ago to Awa Kalu (SAN) & Partners.
According to a source close to the Learned Silk, Giwa whose name is listed on the allegedly forged letterhead, was sacked from the Firm following a series of major incidents of forgery and impersonation.
Giwa who has filed a joint statement with his estranged colleague has been the subject of several petitions to the LPDC citing cases of alleged breaches of professional ethics. When contacted for a reaction, Giwa threatened our correspondent. It will be recalled that Giwa was recently disqualified as not being fit and proper to contest for the office of Chairman of a Branch of the NBA in Abuja. According to sources familiar with the incident, an embattled former Chairman, Obioma Daniel Ezenwobodo had failed in his bit to impose Giwa on the Branch.
Although Giwa is rumored to be a strong ally and supporter of new NBA President, Afam Osigwe SAN, the LPDC is expected to thoroughly investigate all the accusations while Giwa’s career as a legal practitioner hangs in the balance. These allegations, if proven, could result in significant sanctions, including potential disbarment from the legal profession for Giwa.
