15-Year-Old Nigerian Secondary School Student Accuses Mother Of Taking Her To Different Men, Abandoning Her In Delta Hotel Room With A Man

A 15-year-old senior secondary school student, Emmanuella Monday, has accused her biological mother, Mrs. Eunice Asulie, of selling her to different men for prostitution.

It was gathered that Emmanuella became fed up when her mother allegedly took her to an unidentified man only identified as Aboki at Beeland Hotel in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

SaharaReporters gathered that Miss Emmanuella escaped and sought refuge with a classmate’s family in Effurun.

However, she reported this ordeal to her school’s proprietress, Mrs. Magareth Oghuvwu.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Miss Emmanuella said, “My name is Emmanuella. I am in SS2 at Triumphant School, Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area. I’m 15 years old, and this is my school; I’m inside my school. The reason for this video is that my mum is pushing me into child abuse.

“She’s taking me to men, she’s making me do things I don’t want to do. Unfortunately, on Sunday after church, she took me out to a hotel to go meet a man. Unfortunately, she said that she’s coming back and could not find out in the evening time.

“So I went back and I went to my friend’s place, I did not go to the house actually. So on Monday morning, I went to school, so I reported the matter to my teacher. So my teacher said that she’s going to do something about the matter, that she’s going to look into the matter for me.”

She alleged that this is not the first time her mother has told her to go and meet a man.

“She’s taking me to different, different men. This is not the first time she’s talking about marriage. I’m just 15 years old. She took me to Beeland Hotel at Orhuworun Road, she handed me over to an Aboki man,” Emmanuella said.

She said after her mother handed her over to man, her mother told her that she was coming back but never did.

“So I waited till the evening, around 6pm, I did not see her, so the man said I’m coming, I want to have my bath, so before the man showed up, I had left the hotel already,” she said.

She, however, said the man did not sleep with her and also did not touch her.

When asked if the man gave her mother money, she said, ‘I don’t know.’

“When the man went to go and bathe, something just went into my mind that I should just go. Before the man came back from the bedroom, I just carried myself and my slippers. I ran out of the bedroom.

“I did not have any money with me, I trekked from Orhuworun Road to Airport junction to make sure that man did not see me or my mother did not see me,” she narrated.

Speaking on Monday, a human rights activist in Delta State, Comrade Ighorhiowunu Aghogho, said he had forwarded a letter to the Delta State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission to protect Miss Emmanuella Monday from child trafficking.

In a letter obtained by SaharaReporters, Comrade Aghogho noted that the incident violates the right to parental care and protection (Child Rights Act 2003, Section 14) and protection from child marriage and betrothal (Child Rights Act 2004, Sections 21-23).

The letter reads, “I am writing to report a distressing case of child trafficking involving 15-year-old Miss Emmanuella Monday. On October 13, 2024, her biological mother, Mrs. Eunice Asulie, allegedly sold her to a suspected sex trafficker at Beeland Hotel in Ovwian, Udu LGA. Miss Emmanuella escaped and sought refuge with her classmate’s family in Effurun. She reported this ordeal to her school’s proprietress, Mrs. Magareth Oghuvwu, who contacted me.

“We urgently request: Court order for police protection (Child Rights Act 2003, Section 44) and Custody order in favor of Mrs. Magareth Oghuvwu for 3 years (Child Rights Act 2003, Sections 50-52)

“Monthly upkeep of 100,000 from Mrs. Eunice Asulie (Child Rights Act 2003, Section, reimbursement of N500,000 to Mrs. Magareth Oghuvwu for maintenance and damages of 45,000,000 (Five Million Naira).”

“Inaction may perpetuate child exploitation, trafficking, and abuse, undermining the Child Rights Act 2003. I urge immediate action to safeguard Miss Emmanuella’s rights and well- being,” the statement said.

Comrade Aghogho told SaharaReporters that the matter was reported at Ovwian Police Station in the Udu area of Delta State on Sunday, October 2024 20. He identified the IPO of the case as Inspector Esther Obukowho.

He added Miss Emmanuella was subsequently released to her school proprietress.

When SaharaReporters contacted the Delta State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mrs. Angela Agbame, she said, “The letter has just been submitted to my table this morning.”

Meanwhile, when SaharaReporters contacted the Delta State police command spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, he said, “I don’t know her, and I have not heard of this. Please advise her to report to the nearest police station.”
