After clearing Jigawa commissioner of adultery, police arrest estranged husband for cyberstalking his wife

A day after an Upper Shariah Court cleared the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, of adultery, the police in Kano have arrested Nasir Buba, the estranged husband of the commissioner’s alleged lover, Tasleem Baba-Nabegu.

Mr Buba was arrested by the police outside his lawyer’s office on Tuesday.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Kano State Hisbah operatives recently arrested Mr Sankara and took him into custody after Mr Buba complained that the commissioner was having extra-marital affair with his wife.

Mr Buba had then filed a case against Mr Sankara at the Shari’ah court.

However, at a sitting on Monday, the presiding judge, Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, relied on the outcome of an investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 1, Kano, to dismiss the case.

The police said based on their investigations, they could not find anything to prove a case of adultery against the accused.

After the dismissal of the case, the police on Tuesday arrested the estranged husband for cyberstalking his wife.

According sources, Mr Buba had extracted a trove of evidence from his wife’s phone to prove his case against the commissioner.

“It obvious police are biased in this case. Nasir has tendered incriminating videos, pictures, chats and voices showing evidence of sexual affairs between the duo,” said a source familiar with the case.

“It is strange how the police cleared the commissioner and then arrested the complainant for cyberstalking his wife.”

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kano State police command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said he was not briefed about the development.

Mr Kiyawa, superintendent of police, however, promised to investigate and revert to our correspondent.

“The arrest has not been brought to my attention. And remember, even the previous incident was handled at the AIG office, Zone 1.

“But I will investigate to confirm if the arrest was made or not,” Mr Kiyawa added.

Meanwhile the Jigawa State Government has announced the reinstatement of the embattled commissioner on Tuesday.
