Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent governorship elections, was spotted in the company of the University of Benin’s best graduating students in Law and Engineering during a private breakfast held yesterday in Benin.
The group had breakfast at Abstract restaurant in GRA. Ogheneochuko Akpako, who earned the title of Best Graduating Student in Mechanical Engineering for the 2021/2022 academic session, and Anthonia Ikeriehi, the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Law for the same period both took to social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to express their gratitude towards Ighodalo for the invitation.
In a viral post on X, Akpako remarked, “Yesterday, I had the privilege of having lunch with @Aighodalo, an inspiring and humble leader dedicated to fostering academic excellence and empowering the youth in Edo State.” He highlighted Ighodalo’s commitment to excellence, noting that he generously awarded them with cash prizes and gifts.
During their hour-long conversation, they discussed the potential of young minds to drive national growth and explored future career prospects. Ighodalo emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence in all their endeavors.
Ikiriehi also shared her thoughts on Instagram, stating, “I was privileged to meet the great Asue Ighodalo. Having a conversation with him revealed that there are indeed people who are passionate about the system, eager to see the youth thrive, and committed to rewarding excellence and hard work.” She expressed her appreciation for Ighodalo’s belief in academic excellence, stating, “Thank you for raising the bar higher, sir. It’s an honor to meet you!”
This meeting comes on the heels of Akpako’s earlier viral post on X where he posted that the University of Benin had awarding him 5,000 Naira for his outstanding academic achievements, prompting public outcry and questioning of the school’s policies regarding student recognition.
Asue Ighodalo’s engagement with these young scholars is a testament of his commitment to youth empowerment and educational excellence in Edo State and Nigeria at large.
