
The Martha Agba Football Tournament officially kicked off today at Kubbong Bette Primary School, marking the start of an exciting community event aimed at uniting people through the love of football.
The opening ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, represented by his Vice, Hon. Rhonda Ashong. The Commissioner for Sports, Cross River State, was represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Sports, Kingsley Liberty, while Mr. Paul Akoli, Supervisor Designate and Mr. Jonathan Udiandeye were also present.
Sponsored by Martha Agba, the tournament is co-sponsored by Yaba Foundation, alongside support from the Cross River State Ministry for Sports and WHEN Initiative. Their collective effort highlights the importance of grassroots sports in fostering unity and development within the community.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Rhonda commended the initiative, describing it as a platform for promoting peace and collaboration. “This tournament reflects the unifying power of sports and the collective commitment to building a stronger community,” she noted.
The ceremony was followed by a thrilling opening match between Running Tigers and Shooting Stars. Both teams showcased impressive skills and determination, setting a high standard for the rest of the tournament. Spectators were treated to a captivating game, filled with moments of brilliance and sportsmanship.
