Adama Paul Accused Of Using Police To Arrest, Dehumanise Critics Of Nigerian Church Leaders

The President/CEO of Africa Enlightenment Centre, Genesis Eririoma, has accused Adama Paul James of orchestrating the arrest and detention of former Dunamis church pastor Abraham Daniel and two others for alleged defamation.

Africa Enlightenment Centre seeks to restore the African identity, love, morality and spirituality for transformation and development.

According to the allegations, Adama, President of Concerned Christian Youths, is acting as a proxy for pastors, leveraging law enforcement and security agencies to detain individuals who criticise the “ills of Christianity and pulpit bandits”.

A Magistrate Court in Wuse in Abuja, on Monday, remanded two siblings; Mr. Enenche Enenche and Alexander Enenche alongside Pastor Abraham Daniel at the Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State over allegations of defaming Pastor Paul Enenche.

Pastor Paul Enenche is the founder and senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, a prominent church in Abuja, Nigeria.

Alexander and Enenche Enenche are both brothers of Pastor Paul Enenche while Abraham Daniel is a former pastor at the Dunamis church.

They were reportedly taken to the Keffi Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) on Monday evening following a remand order secured by the Nigeria Police Force from the Magistrate Court.

SaharaReporters reported on January 8 that the Intelligence Department of the Nigerian police had released Abraham Daniel and Alexander Enenche on bail following their initial arrest.

Alexander Enenche and Daniel were arrested and detained on January 7, 2025, over allegations of cyberbullying and criminal defamation against Pastor Paul Enenche, but were released the following day (last Wednesday) after an agreement was reached to resolve the matter amicably.

Alexander Enenche and Daniel were instructed to report to the Force Intelligence Department (FID) on Friday, January 10, 2025, and Monday, January 13, 2025.

Following the arrest of the trio, Adama addressed a news conference on Monday, defending the detention of Daniel and the Enenche brothers.

He emphasised that disparaging statements, libelous claims, and malicious accusations against pastors will no longer be tolerated.

Adama further stated that his efforts have led to the arrest of individuals he claims are engaged in a campaign of calumny against religious leaders.

Adama said, “These individuals have consistently used their platforms to launch baseless allegations against the Church and its leaders, seeking to demean and drag the Christian faith into disrepute.

“Daniel has repeatedly insulted men of God, made defamatory statements about the Church, and described Christianity as a scam.

“Such actions are not only reckless but are also capable of inciting religious tensions in an already fragile nation. This blatant abuse of social media poses a grave threat to religious harmony and national peace.”

“The targeted attacks on Christianity and its clerics constitute a gross violation of these provisions. I am fully committed to ensuring that such attacks do not go unchecked,” he affirmed.

Adama, however, pledged to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

But Eririoma, in a post on Facebook, alleged that Adama is being used by pastors to haunt their critics.

He said, “This man is one Adama James Paul who has taken it upon himself to be used by Nigerian Daddy GOs to use police and other security agencies to arrest and dehumanise those speaking against the ills of Christianity and Pulpit Bandits.

“It’s time all critical voices, lawyers and advocates take him up and put him where he belongs.

“His activities is (sic) proof that the power of religion lies in the hands of the government that supports its activities to keep brainwashing the people and milking them of their resources in the name of a non existent deity…”

“These Pastors are just thriving on an established religious order. Some of them know there is no such God anywhere,” he said in another post.

“Pastors defame people on their platforms, accuse people publicly of witchcraft etc but nobody arrests them for defamation,” he also said.

SaharaReporters attempted to contact Adama for comment on the allegations, but he remained unreachable, ignoring calls and a message sent to him.
