Police Arrest Two More Suspects Linked To Abduction Of Retired AIG’s Wife

The Lagos State Special Squad of the Nigerian Police has arrested two additional suspects linked to the kidnapping of Mrs. Folashade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu.

It was gathered that during the operation, the police recovered N2.25 million in cash, two locally fabricated rifles, and 11 live cartridges.

The suspects, identified as Agbojule Smart, 27, and Keleke Michael, 30, were apprehended early on Friday, January 24, 2025, while attempting to flee Lagos State.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police confirmed that the arrest of two suspects.

The statement read, “Upon interrogation, they confessed to their crime; belonging to a gang of 4, 2 of whom have been neutralized previously.

“Recovered from the suspects upon their arrest were the sum of Two Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N2,250,000), which was part of the requested ransom, 2 locally fabricated rifles, and 11 live cartridges.

“The IGP commends the police operatives for their gallantry in apprehending these suspects and encourages them to maintain this high standard of competence in the fight against crime in all its manifestations.” 

On Thursday, SaharaReporters reported that Mrs. Odumosu had been rescued from her kidnappers.

The Nigerian police reportedly neutralised some of the kidnappers and recovered the ransom paid.

The development come days after SaharaReporters reported that heavily armed men abducted Mrs Odumosu from her residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State.

The kidnappers, who shot sporadically during the abduction, dragged her from her Lexus SUV and took her through swampy areas to an undisclosed location.

In response, Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo deployed operatives with support from local security forces, including Baale Warewa and Baale Maaba.

In a statement on Thursday, Adejobi said, “With the support of the Force Headquarters technical intelligence platforms, the Ogun State police operatives engaged in extensive surveillance of the creeks surrounding Arepo, gathering crucial information to track down the assailants. 

“Their efforts culminated in a raid on January 23, 2025, at around 06:45 AM. The intelligence-led operation took the police to a creek in the swampy area of Ikorodu where the kidnappers were reportedly planning their next attack.

“Upon arrival, the operatives encountered the kidnappers, who opened fire. In the ensuing confrontation, two of the gunmen were neutralized, while four others fled the scene, abandoning their operational weapons. 

“The victim, Mrs Odumosu was rescued within the swampy creeks during the operation, unharmed. She is currently undergoing medical evaluation as a precautionary measure and has since been reunited with her family. 

“The police also recovered 4 Ak-47 rifles, 3 locally made single barrel rifles, ammunition of various calibers, and the sum of N10,000,000 ransom previously demanded by the kidnappers, further ensuring that justice is served.”
