Abuja, Nigeria – February 5, 2025
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during today’s plenary session at the National Assembly.
Making his announcement on the floor of the Senate, Nwoko stated that his decision was based on deep-seated issues within the PDP, including a lack of internal democracy and disregard for party members’ concerns. He also highlighted his commitment to better representation and development for his constituents as a key factor in his move.
“I have consulted widely with my people, and it has become clear that my continued stay in the PDP does not serve their best interests. Therefore, I have made the bold decision to align with a platform that will enable me to deliver more effectively for Delta North,” Nwoko declared.
His defection marks a major political shift in Delta State, making the APC the dominant party in the state’s Senate representation. The move is expected to reshape political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to the announcement, Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed Nwoko to the APC, emphasizing that the party remains open to progressive-minded individuals committed to national development.
With this latest defection, the PDP continues to face internal challenges as more lawmakers reconsider their political affiliations.
More updates to come.
