A 46-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Gafaru, has been arraigned at the Samuel Ilori Court in Ogba area of Lagos State over allegations of defiling his 15-year-old niece.
The case was reported to the Gender Unit, Ikeja, through a referral letter from the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), addressed to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, according to the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin.
Hundeyin asserted that the letter, dated February 20, 2025, was written on behalf of the survivor, who accused Gafaru of assaulting her on December 5 and 6, 2024.
According to the allegations, Gafaru, who is married to the teenager’s aunt, forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, prompting authorities to take action.
He affirmed that police accepted the case and launched an investigation, leading to his arraignment in court.
“The above case was received at the Gender Unit Ikeja, through a medium of referral letter from DSVA addressed to the commissioner of police Lagos state, dated 20/0202 on behalf of one ‘f’ 15yrs against one Ibrahim Gafaru ‘m’ 46yrs.
“The survivor alleged that on the 5th and 6th of December, 2024, the alleged perpetrator who is the husband to her aunt forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, hence the referral letter.
“Case was accepted while investigation commenced. Alleged perpetrator is presently being arraigned in Samuel Ilori Court Ogba,” the statement reads.
