Court Sends Lawyer To Dismissed Adamawa REC Yunusa Hudu To Prison For Contempt

There was mild drama at the Adamawa State High Court where a judge committed an attorney to prison custody.

The imprisoned attorney, M. K. Tijjani represented the sacked Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yunusa Hudu.

Hudu had for fifth time evaded court appearance in a case filed by INEC following his illegal declaration of Adamawa governorship election in 2023.

He had announced Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the gubernatorial polls before the conclusion of results collation.

Therefore, Tijjani had at the resumed sitting refused to observe conventions and protocols of proceedings expected of officers in the temple of justice.

Irked by the act of outright disrespect and profane utterances against the court, Justice Benjamin Manji ordered him to unrobe and step into the witness box to explain why the court would not commit him to contempt of court.

While in the witness box, Tijjani exhibited same attitude which the court viewed as contempt of court and ordered that he should be taken to the Jimeta correctional centre.

Meanwhile, Tijjani had on January 23, 2025 flouted court proceedings, which the court overlooked.
