The Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State has been accused of covering up a defilement case initiated against a 54-year-old resident, identified as Oluwaseyi Faturoti.
It was learnt that the suspect was accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.
Faturoti, a clearing agent from Tincan Island, Apapa, allegedly committed the heinous act when the girl’s mother, his former lover, left the child in his care.
The victim’s mother discovered blood on the floor the next day and questioned her daughter. Initially, the daughter declined to speak but later revealed the horrific truth.
Despite overwhelming evidence, including a medical test from General Hospital, Isolo in Lagos State that confirmed the defilement, sources told SaharaReporters that the police are allegedly trying to cover up the crime.
The case has been transferred from the Okota police station to the Gender Unit in the state command headquarters.
Sources familiar with the situation have alleged that the police allegedly compromised the investigation.
They claimed that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), known as Ekpo, and an officer from the Gender Unit identified as Toyin were allegedly bribed by a relative of the suspect to undermine the case.
The source said, “The 10 years old minor was allegedly defiled by the family friend, 54 years old Oluwaseyi. He hails from Ilesa, Osun State and works in Tincan Island Apapa as a clearing Agent.
“Mr Faturoti was alleged to have had sex with the minor when he sent the nanny and older sister to get him lighter and took advantage of the minor.“
“On that fateful day the mum who was a mistress to him went to the saloon and left them in his custody. Faturoti now sent the nanny and elder sister to get him a lighter when they left. He now called the minor and asked her to sit on his lap and now gave her his phone to play any game of her choice and defiled her in the process.”
“The case has been transferred from Okota police station to the Gender Unit despite all pleas by relatives and friends of Clement Faturoti as the DPO Okota claimed the case was a bad case.
“A test carried out at General hospital Isolo showed that Clement Faturoti defiled the minor.
“But rather than doing the right thing, the Gender Unit is trying to compromise. IPO Ekpo should be careful with the gender head, Toyin,” the source added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has yet to react to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
