UGHELLI – In a vibrant and well-attended meeting held on May 1 in Ughelli, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State sent a clear message to those who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The party faithful reaffirmed their unyielding commitment to the PDP, emphasizing that their loyalty lies with the party’s principles and not with any individual leader.
The gathering, which saw a strong turnout of PDP members, showcased the resilience and unity of Ughelli North’s party base. Attendees unanimously declared their dedication to the PDP’s ideals, asserting that the party remains their political home despite attempts to sway them.
Reflecting the sentiment of loyalists, Oke Umurhohwo, a prominent PDP chieftain in Ughelli North, has consistently maintained, “The PDP is bigger than any one person. Our loyalty is to the party that built us, and we will not trade it for short-term gains.” His words resonate deeply with the members who gathered, reinforcing their resolve to uphold the party’s values.
Leaders at the meeting stressed that Governor Oborevwori’s authority does not extend to the entire party membership. “We are not his followers by default,” one leader declared. “Our allegiance is to the PDP and the people we serve, not to anyone seeking to control us.”
Members voiced concerns over the lack of tangible development in Ughelli North under the current administration. “Why should we follow a leadership whose presence we barely feel in our communities?” a passionate attendee asked, capturing the frustration of many.
The PDP faithful emphasized that true party loyalty is grounded in principles, service, and commitment to the electorate, not in opportunistic defections. They condemned those who abandoned the PDP for personal gain, vowing to remain steadfast in their support for the platform that nurtured their political careers.
The meeting also included a call to the PDP’s national leadership to recognize and support loyal members who continue to champion the party’s cause amid political pressures. The Ughelli North PDP pledged to keep the party’s flag flying high in Delta State, expressing optimism about reclaiming its dominance in the region’s political landscape.
They warned defectors that the PDP’s strength lies not in the departure of a few but in the unity and determination of its loyal members. The gathering concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening the party for future electoral success.
