Enugu Native Doctor Arrested At Seme Border Claims ‘Dead Bodies Found In Soakaway Were Planted by Enemies’

The Enugu native doctor, Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, who was arrested over ritual killing and kidnapping allegations by the officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while fleeing Nigeria, has claimed that the dead bodies found in soakaway in his house were planted by his “enemies.”

Obieze, who hails from Umuojor village in the Isiagu Community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, had been on the run and was earlier declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force in connection with the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl and multiple ritual killings.

The police had rescued a teenage girl abducted while walking to the farm with her father.

She was reportedly found in a shrine believed to be operated by Obieze.

The shrine, located in the suspect’s hometown, became the scene of horror when police discovered two decomposing bodies hidden in a pit sealed with concrete.

Three suspects linked to the abduction, Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38), were apprehended by the Enugu State Police Command, while Obieze had fled and remained at large until Thursday.

The native doctor was eventually arrested on Thursday by the Nigeria Immigration Service at Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road to end Obieze’s escape attempt.

The suspect was reportedly trying to flee Nigeria on a motorcycle when he was nabbed.

During a brief interrogation after his arrest, Obieze who confirmed that he hails from Enugu State told the NIS officers that he resides in Benin Republic as a businessman and that he sells Okrika (fairly used clothes).

Asked where he was headed to, he said, “I don’t know where I’m heading to right now because they say before you kill somebody, allow the person to talk.

“You are an officer and someone may mark you as a criminal or a thief, whereby you know that you are innocent. Whenever you know that you are innocent, even though you are taken to hell, you will go there. The God of vengeance will still deliver you from anything.

“An issue on ground concerning me is a political issue. It is something politics, fabrication against me because I will be the next king (though he called it next of kin) and some people in my village don’t want me to be that next king.

“They are planting evil against me front and back so that I can fall. That is the major issue. The PG (President General) of my village went and demolished my house.”

When he was asked if he is a native doctor, he said, “No”, insisting, “All these things are just to weaken me. As I’m talking now, I’m homeless. I don’t have a house.”

On why the PG of his village demolished his house, he said, “Because they are the ones that planted something that is disturbing me,” and when he was asked what was planted against him, he said, “They planted someone, he is a young guy. There is where I I’m building a new house, far away from the house I’m living in. It is always difficult before I go there. I don’t go there anyhow. Because of this kingship issue, they set me up.

“There is someone that is working for them and they planted a dead body in my house, in my soakaway pit. And I have already answered this matter.

“They caught the guy who planted the dead body. I didn’t know the guy before and that was why I was free.”
