Police Nab Two Over Kidnapping, Killing Of Anambra Female Bank Manager After Collecting N14Million Ransom

The Anambra State Police Command has said that its operatives arrested two suspects linked to the brutal kidnapping and murder of a female bank manager earlier this year.

The police said the suspects, identified as Monday Egbe (32), and Kenneth Nnoga (28), were arrested on May 28, 2025, after an investigation led to their hideout in a neighbouring state.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests are part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to bring justice to victims and dismantle criminal networks operating within and beyond the state.

SaharaReporters in January 2025 reported that police confirmed the killing of the female banker by suspected kidnappers in the state.

The victim, identified only as Ifeoma, was killed by the suspected kidnappers even after her family had paid a ransom.

The victim was said to have been abducted in the commercial city of Onitsha and held captive for several days before her abductors contacted her family and demanded a ransom.

However, despite that her family paid the ransom, now confirmed by the police to be N14 million, her abductors still killed her. They dumped her body around Ideani junction, Nnobi/Alor Road area of the state.

The police spokesperson said the suspects’ arrest followed painstaking investigations and surveillance operations by the police. The Command added that it is still pursuing additional suspects believed to be part of the criminal syndicate.

“The operatives while on diligent investigations trailed two of the suspects one Monday Egbe ‘M’ aged 32 years and Kenneth Nnoga ‘M’ aged 28 years to their criminal hideout in a neighbouring State,” Ikenga stated.

“The suspects are currently undergoing interrogations for more insights into the modus Operandi of the criminal gang and possible arrest of other gang members.”

In his reaction, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of Anambra that the Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property.

According to him, the police are committed to ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes face the full wrath of the law.

He said the arrest of the suspects sends a clear message to criminal elements that Anambra is not a haven for lawlessness.

The Command, therefore, urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that could lead to the arrest of more criminals.
