CATHOLIC CHURCH HONOURS MAZI CHIMA AMADI, DESCRIBES HIM AS MAN OF UNMATCHED PHILANTHROPY AS HE DONATES N20M IN SUPPORT OF CHURCH PROJECTS
In a momentous display of appreciation and recognition of his extraordinary humanitarian efforts, the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) of the Assumpta Maria Cathedral, Parish, Owerri, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, bestowed upon Mazi Chima Mathew Amadi, PhD, the esteemed Award of Excellence, as “Dike Oha N’ime Kristi”.
This prestigious award is a testament to Amadi’s unwavering commitment to the growth of the church as body of Christ and his remarkable contributions to humanity, which stand as beacon of hope in a world beset by darkness and despair.
The award presentation was part of a special dinner and interactive session with the Metropolitan Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, organised by the CMO, Assumpta Parish.
The event also provided a special platform for the church to celebrate Amadi’s dedication to values that resonate with Christian principles, and his life of service, which is characterized by kindness and generosity.
Presenting the award, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dr. Martin-Edward Ohajunwa, eloquently described Amadi as a man, whose selfless services to humanity and the Church have been deeply noted. Ohajunwa further highlighted Amadi’s generous contributions to the Catholic Church, stating that they demonstrate his unwavering love for the Church and the faithful.
“His commitment to serving others is a testament to his character and his leadership embodying compassion, integrity, and service,” he added.
The CMO president, Dr. Alphonsus U.C. Ukozor, hailed Amadi as a champion of the poor and downtrodden, whose genuine love for humanity continues to inspire many. He praised Amadi’s philanthropic efforts, which have made positive impact in his community and beyond, likening him to a ray of sunshine that illuminates the lives of those around him.
In a speech titled: “My Message To The Church: A Solemn Treatise On The Responsibilities Of Man To Society”, Amadi, attributed his humanitarian disposition to the combination of his Christian upbringing and God’s benevolence through generous individuals. He emphasized the importance of living a life of service and compassion, citing his parents as examples of selflessness and kindness.
As a proactive leader, Amadi emphasized the need for certifiable knowledge and expertise in addressing societal challenges. He highlighted the importance of developing a new and purposeful approach to security, where every conscious Imo citizen is involved in counterintelligence and in support of national security infrastructure based on local initiatives. Amadi also stressed the need for civil service reforms that prioritize productivity and discipline.
“Reform is not to relieve people of their work, but to get people to work effectively under the principle of productive freedom,” he said.
On public education, Amadi decried the collapse of public education system in Imo State, calling for a declaration of state of emergency on education. He reasoned that revamping the public education system at all levels should be a priority for the government and relevant stakeholders, emphasizing that education is key to the state’s development and progress. His words were a clarion call for action, urging stakeholders to work together to save and strengthen the education system.
Mazi Chima Mathew Amadi PhD also made a donation of twenty million (N20m) naira to the church for the completion of ongoing projects.
As Dr. Amadi continues his journey of service and leadership, this honour marks a significant milestone. He looks forward to building a state that is not only productive, safe, and secure for all, but one that works for everyone regardless of political leanings and religious inclinations.
