The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and dangerous weapons during a stop-and-search operation in Ibadan.
According to a police report issued by the Divisional Police Officer of Yemetu Division, CSP Fayiwole Julius Oluwadare, the arrests followed an early morning patrol on June 27, 2025, at about 6:00 a.m., led by ASP Atilola Wasiu.
The patrol team, while conducting routine checks at the second gate of the University College Hospital (UCH) along Secretariat Road, sighted a red, unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with three men onboard. Upon noticing the officers, the occupants — later identified as Hammed Saheed and two others — abandoned the motorcycle and fled, leaving behind a black bag.
A search of the bag revealed two cut-to-size locally made pistols, two live cartridges, a UTC knife, and various charms. One of the suspects, Ganiu Fadipe, 32, was apprehended after a hot chase and reportedly gave useful information leading to the arrest of other gang members.
Acting on this intelligence, CSP Oluwadare led a follow-up operation to Hilltop Hotels, opposite WAEC Junction, Ijokodo area of Ibadan, where six additional suspects were arrested. They include Wasiu Opeyemi, 24, of Mushin Amodu, Lagos; Olalekan Timilehin, 25, of 22 Ola Street, Ikorodu, Lagos; Hammed Saheed, 23, of Ikorodu, Lagos; Abdul Fatai Rodiat, 21, of Oke Ado, Ibadan; Badirat Adewale, 25, of Oopo area, Ibadan; and Sukurat Rasak, 28, of Abraham Adesanya, Okanaja 22, Lagos.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
The police assured the public that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
