Three In Police Custody For Stabbing Lagos Man To Death

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects for stabbing a man, identified as Scoro, to death during a public brawl in the Lagos Island area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this exclusively to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.

Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened on Tuesday when Scoro was attacked by a group of guys who were attempting a reprisal on another group over a dispute related to building ownership.

An anti-cultism advocacy page on X, NaijaConfra, who shared details of the incident on Wednesday noted that a group had attacked another and in the process of a reprisal, Scoro was stabbed to death.

NaijaConfra wrote, “Yesterday, we reported that a young man was stabbed near UBA Marina by Balogun Market, Lagos Island, and sadly died. We can now confirm the incident was not cult-related, even though the killers were said to be cultists and street touts.

“The fight was over the Balogun Ultra Modern Market building. One side won the court case and gave the property to their developer, but the losing side refused to leave. This caused tension, with Idumota area boys supporting one party and Apongbon area boys backing the other side.

“After the elders settled the first fight, three Idumota boys went to find their Apongbon rivals. On the way, they met Scoro, who collects union money at UBA Marina. They stabbed him to death.”

The page narrated further that a transport union leader in the area, upon hearing of the incident, mobilised, apprehended the young men, and handed them over to the police.

“Though Scoro was from Apongbon, he had nothing to do with the building fight. He was just minding his business.

“After the killing, the three boys returned to their area. When Kunle Poly, a Yoruba street leader in that area, heard about it, he took quick action. He apprehended the boys and handed them to the police.”

Confirming the incident in a telephone conversation, Hundeyin said the suspects had bèen transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“Confirmed. They have been transferred to SCID for further investigation,” the PPRO told our correspondent.

PUNCH Metro reported a similar incident on Monday that the Kebbi State Police Command arrested a 30-year-old suspect over the alleged murder of one Auwal Umaru.
