
Pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, famed for his electrifying charisma and signature shirt-ripping theatrics that helped catapult professional wrestling into mainstream fame, has died at the age of 71.
Hogan — born Terry Gene Bollea — rose to fame through his flamboyant wrestling persona, eventually becoming a household name thanks to roles in numerous films and television shows.
Officials said Hogan passed away on Thursday morning in Florida. Emergency responders from Clearwater police and fire departments were dispatched to his residence at 9:51 a.m. following a report of cardiac arrest.
He was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to a statement from the city.
Hogan died surrounded by his loved ones, his manager Chris Volo confirmed to NBC Los Angeles.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” World Wrestling Entertainment said in a statement.
“One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Donald Trump Jr., son of the former president, paid tribute on X, posting stars and stripes emojis along with the message, “R.I.P to a legend.”
