REJECTION OF THE PURPORTED RESULTS OF OKURA CONSTITUENCY ELECTION

REJECTION OF THE PURPORTED RESULTS OF OKURA CONSTITUENCY ELECTION

I, Godwin Meliga, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Okura Constituency, hereby reject in its entirety the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the just concluded House of Assembly election in Okura Constituency.

There was no election in 98% of the polling units across the constituency. Electoral materials were hijacked and carted away by the Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, the Auditor-General of Kogi State, and their hired thugs, with the full backing of compromised security agencies. This brazen act denied the good people of Okura Constituency the opportunity to freely exercise their constitutional right to vote.

It is deeply disappointing and unacceptable that INEC chose to accept and announce results that did not emanate from a credible electoral process. What transpired today was nothing short of a daylight robbery of the mandate of the people.

On behalf of myself, my party, and the peace-loving people of Okura Constituency, I state categorically that we reject this result and call on INEC to immediately cancel the charade and order a fresh election in accordance with the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Democracy can only thrive when the will of the people is respected. Anything short of this is a grave threat to our democratic journey.
