Nigerian Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Woman In Delta For Stabbing Lover To Death

A 21-year-old mother of two, identified simply as Lilian, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her partner to death during a domestic dispute at Ijanpa Road in the state.

The state police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement posted on his official X handle on Wednesday.

He explained that Lilian had been living with the deceased, a 34-year-old man, for the past four years, beginning their relationship when she was 17.

The couple had two children together.

According to Edafe, the suspect admitted during interrogation that she stabbed her partner in the chest after a violent quarrel.

“She claimed he attempted to end their relationship, which led to a quarrel. She said he beat her with a cane and hit her head on the ground before she rushed to the kitchen to get a knife,” Edafe said.

Lilian reportedly told police investigators that she acted in self-defence.

She explained that her partner’s attempt to end their relationship had triggered a fight.

Narrating the incident, Lilian said, “I have been living with him for four years now and I have two boys with him. The first child is three years old and the other is two.

“On Monday, I do not know what triggered him but we stopped talking. So, I asked him to collect the meter from our neighbour in order to recharge electricity but he ignored me.

“So, we argued and he started beating me with a cane. So, after he smashed my head on the ground, I rushed to the kitchen to pick up a knife.”

Edafe further confirmed that the suspect would be charged with murder. He urged Nigerians to learn how to manage their temper and avoid situations that could lead to tragic outcomes.

In a similar development in August, a man  identified as Comrade Victory Nanakparo, Chairman of Ekpan Community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, was  accused of stabbing a woman multiple times during a violent incident on Sunday.

The victim, who identified herself as Tessy William, alleged that Mr. Nanakparo stabbed her three times in the face during an altercation in Ekpan. She claimed the attack left her with deep wounds and called on relevant authorities to take action.
