Australian Bank Fires Employee, Replaces Her With AI She Helped Train

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has laid off a 65-year-old staff member, Kathryn Sullivan, after 25 years of service, replacing her with an AI system she had trained.

According to The Sun, Sullivan, who worked as a bank teller, was made redundant in July 2025. She later discovered that the chatbot she spent weeks helping to develop had effectively taken over her role.
