Nepal’s Prime Minister Resigns As Anti-Corruption Protesters Set Fire To Residences

Nepal’s Prime Minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, has resigned amid escalating anti-corruption protests in Kathmandu.

He resigned on Tuesday after the protests against government intensified across the Himalayan nation’s capital, Kathmandu.

According to RT, Nepal’s army confirmed that Oli and six cabinet ministers were moved to an undisclosed location after protesters set fire to the residences of both the prime minister and the vice president.

The protests, which began over corruption allegations, turned violent after a ban on major social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and X, was imposed on Monday and later revoked on Tuesday.

The government enforced curfews across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts to control the unrest.

However, several cabinet ministers, including Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari, resigned in response to the crisis.

Protesters are demanding action against corrupt leaders and government officials. They are also calling for justice and accountability for the deaths of protesters in police firing.

Oli’s resignation brings an abrupt end to his tenure as Prime Minister. The protests, which were led by Gen Z, resulted in at least 19 deaths and hundreds of injuries.

The situation in Kathmandu remains tense, with many calling for further action against corruption and government accountability.
