The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Isma’il, over alleged dereliction of duty.
The suspension was said to have taken immediate effect.
It was announced on Thursday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida.
“The Executive Governor has instructed the suspended Commissioner for Health to justify why further sanctions should not be applied, having disregarded the mandate entrusted to him,” the statement added.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday, a journalist in Kebbi State, Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa, was detained after releasing a video showing the poor conditions at Kangiwa General Hospital.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, depicted patients lying on bare metal beds without mattresses, sparking public outrage and renewed scrutiny of the state’s healthcare system.
Previously, SaharaReporters reported that a disturbing video exposed the shocking decay at a General Hospital in Kebbi State, where an elderly patient was seen lying helplessly on a hospital bed without a mattress.
The footage, which has sparked outrage, shows the sick man placed directly on the bare iron frame of a hospital bed, a situation that reflects the crippling neglect and rot in the state’s healthcare system.
A narrator in the video lamented the grim reality of the hospital, saying: “In this hospital, there are many things wrong and very frustrating. They claim to be providing healthcare services, yet the reality tells a different story. Imagine an elderly man lying on a sickbed with no mattress, no bedsheet, and no pillow — just the bare iron frame. It is deeply upsetting and unacceptable.”
The footage underscores the lack of basic facilities in the hospital, including beds, mattresses, and essential medical equipment.
