The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a businesswoman, Okolonkwo Ebere Theresa, after she was caught attempting to smuggle methamphetamine concealed in her underwear at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
According to a statement released on Sunday, September 21, 2025, by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspect was intercepted on Sunday, September 14, by Aviation Security officers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) working in collaboration with NDLEA operatives stationed at Terminal 2’s screening point.
Meth Hidden in Bum Pad
During a thorough search, security officers discovered two parcels of a white crystalline substance cleverly hidden inside her bum pad underwear. Subsequent laboratory analysis confirmed the substance as methamphetamine, weighing a total of 1.40 kilograms.
Suspect’s Confession
In her preliminary statement, Ebere—who described herself as a second-hand clothing dealer and POS operator based in Enugu—confessed that she was recruited by a drug trafficking syndicate to carry out the smuggling operation.
The agency has since launched further investigations to trace the criminal network behind her recruitment and to uncover her intended final destination.
NDLEA’s Ongoing Crackdown
The NDLEA has in recent months stepped up surveillance across Nigeria’s airports and borders, intercepting narcotics and arresting couriers linked to organized trafficking rings. The agency reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug syndicates and preventing the use of Nigeria’s airports as channels for international drug smuggling.
